Adam is an Associate in the London Office. He has a degree in Economics from Jesus College Cambridge. Before starting he took six months out to travel, learn Spanish and surf. If I were to choose one case which best sums the experience of strategy consulting at BCG I would choose a recent example of where our team helped a Major International Airline develop their Cabin Crew operation strategy for the next 10 years. Our team split into two groups, one focussed on optimising short-term operations while the other looked into how the business could be set-up for efficient performance in the long-run. In the end we were able to set financial targets on what operational efficiency should look like in the long-run and find short-term cost savings to finance the projects required to deliver these targets. So, why was this a good example of a case? Firstly, any decisions and changes we made were likely to affect the probability of the planes across the road from us at Heathrow taking off or staying grounded!Secondly, this project spanned several functions of the Client’s business and brought a large group of clients who had rarely worked together before but were united for the success of the project. Finally, bringing our wide experience from work in Airlines and other industries managed to drive real change. Watching initial worry transform into enthusiasm and optimism for the future was so rewarding for me. The training I received in interacting with Senior Clients was invaluable to allow me to be fully integrated in all of the decision making processes and gain respect from people many years my senior. It really let me see how much impact BCG’s commitment to solving the problem with our Clients has on the people within these firms.
