Is consultancy for me? An Event for Women

The Old Law Library, Magdalen College, Oxford
16.30, 18.30 and 20.30
Please register your attendance at the bottom of this page

Pre-conceived Idea no 1:
“A career in business / the City / consultancy means it is a boring office job"

Think again !

BCG is a leading strategy consultancy with 66 offices world-wide. At BCG, you would work for the top companies in the world, helping them tackle some of their most important issues, in a friendly dynamic environment with early responsibility and challenging work.

And when we say “early responsibility and challenging work”, we don’t mean:

  • That you will spend your days number-crunching or that we consider photocopying challenging. As an Associate at BCG, you’ll be expected from day 1 to attend client meetings, write presentations, interview experts or customers and yes… do some quantitative analysis. You could be exploring new revenue opportunities in the music industry, helping a pharmaceutical firm decide what emerging markets it should focus on in the next 5 years, helping unify the ground operations of Save the Children in Burma and much more…

  • That you are going to be stuck at a computer all day and that you will never see the elusive “client”. Again, we expect Associates to often attend client meetings, with the most senior members of large UK and multinational companies – CEOs, CFOs, Strategy Directors, etc!

  • That you need a degree in Economics / Maths / Science to get in and succeed here. We really do hire from any degree and any background. We are more interested in your skills – problem-solving, communication, team-work and leadership than what lectures you attended

  •  That you will no longer see the light of day. You’re unlikely to be working 9-5 but weekends are pretty sacred to us and you can expect to be home for dinner most nights

Pre-conceived Idea no 2:
“All these City firms have male-dominated, macho environments where I wouldn’t
be happy

Think again!

40% of our Associates and Junior Consultants are women, and we pride ourselves on our friendly, supportive environment. Everyone has a support network (a “buddy”, Careers Advisor, Mentor and friends) to help them settle in and develop.

Sounds more interesting than you thought?
We are particularly keen to encourage the application of more women, especially from those who have not at first thought of consulting as a career before.

Please come and join us for an informal session on “Is Consultancy for Me? An Event for Women” on 29th April in the Old Law Library at Magdalen College, Oxford.

After a brief introduction to consulting and BCG, we’ll talk you through how women have used opportunities at BCG and what it could mean for you. Wine and nibbles and a relaxed atmosphere are part of the package!

There are three sessions on Tuesday 29th April to choose from, open to all female students:
4.30-6.00pm
6.30-8.00pm
8.30-10.00pm

Please register your attendance here
