I chose consulting for the opportunity to sit at the table with senior executives, to watch them make decisions, and to develop my leadership skills. During the course of various projects, I’ve worked day-to-day and side-by-side with senior vice presidents, as well as the CEO and CFO of a $700 million subsidiary of a major client. The principals and project leaders with whom I work are like coaches, teaching me to build client relationships, pushing my analyses, but also giving me enough space to own my work and learn as I go.
The mentor networks at BCG are extraordinary. My mentor in my home office has helped me grow and work through tough situations, and mentors in other offices around the country are just an instant message or phone call away. I call my former principal in another office to talk about reviews and call consultants I’ve worked with or met through the Diversity Initiative to catch up or talk about the cases we’re working on.I have mentors at BCG who have taken an interest in me, offering support from both a female and diversity perspective. Their guidance is invaluable.
