The Boston Consulting Group strengthens their Public Sector group by appointing James Purnell, Senior Advisor
London, April 7, 2011-The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has appointed James Purnell as Senior Advisor in their Public Sector practice.
James has over twenty years experience in the public sector and has been appointed to support the rapidly developing UK practice, headed by Craig Baker. He will focus on providing advice on developing and leading strategies for public service reform.
Prior to joining BCG, James was Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and for Culture, Media and Sport. He was responsible for radical reforms to welfare, which are being continued by the current government, and for implementing the Turner Commission's pension reforms, including raising the retirement age and auto-enrolment into a private pension.
Prior to becoming an MP, James was special adviser on the knowledge economy to the Prime Minister. He advised Tony Blair on media regulation, e-government and post-16 education policy, following his previous role running the BBC's performance review system for John Birt. Whilst at the BBC, he wrote Extending Choice in the Digital Age, their strategy to create digital channels and the BBC website.

The Boston Consulting Group appoints Dr. Graham Rich as Director of Health Services

Rich was previously Chief Executive at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. Rich brings a wealth of managerial experience in commissioning, primary care and acute hospitals and has worked as a PCT and Foundation Trust Chief Executive. He will be working closely with all the partners in the London Healthcare practice including, Alastair Flanagan, John Gooch, James Kent and Philip Krinks.
